What are the advantages of the technology

Digitization a blessing or a curse

The term digitization is used more and more frequently in the press or in lectures by politicians, because our world has changed a lot in recent years. Almost everyone has a smartphone with them, a house without an internet connection is seen as a kind of analog prison and a computer is used in most workplaces.

Films like Minority Report paint the digital future as a picture of the transparent human being. The main actor enters shops in which a hologram immediately recognizes his identity and can view previous shopping experiences. It greets him with the question of whether he is satisfied with the 3-pack of T-shirts from the last visit.

On the other hand, there is the hope that boring household chores can be replaced by robots, thus creating more time for family, hobbies and personal development. In addition, work processes are to be accelerated in the company and services are to be more individualized. It is foreseeable that digital technologies will also cost some jobs in the world of work. There is a fear that this will equal the extent of the first industrial revolution in the 18th and 19th centuries, in which, for example, the weavers were largely replaced by the mechanical loom.

What is digitization?

The digital revolution cannot be described with a single start date. There are several processes that work together digital revolution form. This includes, on the one hand, the development of the microchip, which after theMoore's Law its computing power doubles every one to two years. With it ever more powerful computers, robots and sensors can be created. On the other hand, the information was digitally stored all over the world within a very short time. These can now be processed and evaluated with the help of computers. In addition, thecomputerization contributed.

In the world of work it was on the spreaddigital technologies and the one that goes with themautomation with the exclamation of theIndustry 4.0 replied. The federal government has decided to use this high-tech strategy to link industry with communication and information technology.

In the area of end users, the spread of digital technologies means the removal of tedious work and faster information acquisition and exchange. For the first, more and more technologies like that are establishing themselvesSmart home or thatSmart driving. Second is through communication with theSmartphone and the spread ofComputers already well advanced.

Philip Specht explains in his book "The 50 most important topics of digitization: Artificial intelligence, blockchain, robotics, virtual reality and much more clearly explained"in detail the various topics that play a role in the area of digitization. Here I also like to recommend the biography of" Frank Thelen - The Autobiography: Startup-DNA - Falling down, getting up, changing the world". He too takes on the issues of digitization and describes the trends in digital technologies and their effects on our everyday lives against the background of his personal life story.

What developments can be expected in the future?

TheInstitute for Employment Research published a study in 2016 in which they found theStatus of the spread of digital technologies in German companiesexamined. Among other things, the scientists found that 18 percent of the companies surveyed see digital technologies as the main component of their business model. However, around 30 percent [cf. 1] of the German companies have not yet dealt with digital technologies. The service companies are ahead of the production companies when it comes to implementing digital technologies.

In order to analyze the spread of smart home technologies, the market research companysplendit Research surveyed around 1,000 people between the ages of 18 and 69 living in Germany in 2016. Almost 30 percent [cf. 2] the participant confirms that they are already using this technology. Especially in the area ofEnergy management and des Entertainments the spread of digital technologies has advanced. With a study didMcKinsey 2016 found that 84 percent of households use digital technologies for communication. 83 percent use them to read newspapers and watch the news and 76 percent do their purchases digitally [cf. 3].

In the future, theDissemination of digital technologies move forward, as it promises a considerable reduction in production costs and better fulfillment of customer requirements. Households, too, will use more digital technology with falling costs, since it promises to fulfill the desire for more time for the family or other things.

What effects does it have on the world of work?

In 2015 theFederal agency for work In a study found that 15 percent of German jobs through theDissemination of digital technologies could be omitted [cf. 4]. This mainly applies to jobs with frequently occurring routine work. In the report, this is particularly valuedAuxiliary and skilled workers in the manufacturing occupations and manufacturing-related occupations can be replaced by robots. These are, for example, workers in the mine, helpers in toolmaking or young chemical laboratory workers for whom there are disadvantages. Professions such as nurses, hearing aid acousticians or teachers are hardly affected.

However, the spread of digital technologies is also changing the work environment. Some activities can be done from home. TheHome office is particularly popular in IT professions. Advantages are, among other things, that there is no need to travel to work and workers have a better work-live balance feeling. Recently, the pioneer in the home office sector, IBM, decided to call some of its workers back into the office. The company justified the decision with more innovative ideas when exchanging workers during the breaks or in the corridors.

Many companies have problems finding a schedule for their own digital transformation. The extensive possibilities of digitization raise the question: Where do I start? How do I go digital? An approach to creating an individual schedule is how you describe in the following article.

How is people's private life changed?

Many people already have a computer at home that they use to research or work on the Internet. With the triumphant advance of the smartphone, communication has also become heavily digitized. Videos are recorded and text and voice messages are sent. People spend more and more time on the Internet. Benefits of digital technologies like thatOnline banking, tracking mail, purchasing items or dinner mainly save walking distances. Robotic vacuum cleaners, automatic room temperature regulation or a robot lawn mower take care of the household chores. This time can be used for family or hobbies.

The disadvantages of the greater dependence on digital technologies are increasingCybercrime and the disclosure of personal information. The former is used to steal money and information from ignorant users, to spread viruses or to use the computer for criminal purposes. The new gold rush is an information frenzy. This is why one speaks of data mining when people talk about the further processing of user data. These are used for personalized advertising and the development of new technology.

Everything is getting faster with the spread of digital technologies and a lot can be done from home. But that won Quality time is consumed by new things, such as finding the right software, comparing offers or understanding new technology. More information is available and we are making use of it. This creates new business models and creative ideas but also new dangers.

Digital technology also has a major impact on the world of work. If activities are eliminated by them, that does not mean that the employees lose their jobs. Because more and more orders are expected that require additional staff. Also arisenew jobs for example in the area of app development, programming or online marketing.

Digital technology is a curse for people and companies that find it difficult to adapt to the new situation. Also arisenew threats such as cybercrime and loss of privacy. For others, it is a blessing as new opportunities arise. This increases the educational opportunities, people can realize themselves through videos or blogs on the Internet and finally the annoying vacuuming is relieved, at least in part.
