The US billionaire already owns 97.3 percent of the shares, the sale period has been extended

Manchester / London - US billionaire Malcolm Glazer now owns 97.3 percent of the shares in the English Premier League club Manchester United. The 76-year-old American announced on Tuesday on the London Stock Exchange. Glazer extended the deadline for remaining shareholders to sell their shares until June 27th. After 14 years, he wants to take the club off the stock exchange this month. Most of the remaining shares are owned by loyal "ManU" fans who have announced that they will fight the American businessman to the end. They fear that the traditional club will become indebted. Glazer took over ManU for the equivalent of 1.16 billion euros (790 million pounds) - mostly with borrowed money. (APA / dpa)
