Who made barbie dolls

Barbie turns 62 - the professions of the world's most famous doll

Barbie's birth

It was March 9th, 1959, when the first Barbie saw the light of day. Barbie Millicent Roberts was introduced to the world by her short name at the American Toy Fair in New York and has since increased sales for the toy manufacturer Mattel. According to the company, a Barbie should go over the counter every three seconds. The doll with the narrow waist is best known for its unusual and garish clothes and its slim body size. However, her reputation as an emancipated career woman does not necessarily precede the toy woman.

Barbie's career

Notable Professions of Barbie Throughout Her Career:

The professional childhood of the blonde doll

Barbie started working as a fashion designer as early as 1960. Of course - how could it be otherwise - in an exemplary designer outfit with a sketch folder under your arm. A year later, Mattel gave her partner Ken, who supported her in her career as a tennis player in 1962. But just a year later, the sporting burden became too great for her and she caught up with her college degree and used it to immediately start as a career woman. The profession in which she worked successfully during these years will probably remain a secret.

The first barbie on the moon

Finally, in 1965, she managed what NASA was not allowed to do until 1969. Four years before the first man was to set foot on the moon, Barbie was already there as an astronaut. She probably didn't have to study aerospace engineering for this job, but she didn't stay in space long either. Instead, she embarked on a medical career in 1973 and became a doctor. In the years that followed, Barbie's résumé shimmered in gold medal colors: As a winter sports skier and gymnast, she participated in two Olympic disciplines and made it onto the podium without years of training.

Barbie's wild eighties and nineties

In the eighties, the whole Barbie family finally fell into the aerobics fever. Not only did Barbie become active, but Ken and Barbie's little sister Skipper also had to take them to the dance floor. Finally, in 1986, Barbie went back into space, this time in a pink and silver eighties outfit. In 1990, however, she had landed safely in the children's rooms on earth again and then made the dizzying heights of our planet unsafe as a pilot. In 1996 she finally treated animals as a veterinarian and even after that she stayed true to the medical profession as a dentist. But as early as 1998, Barbie wanted to test the sporting professions further: whether as a soccer player, basketball professional or swimmer, she put the real experts in the shade.

Barbie takes part in worldly events

Barbie finally got off to a more down-to-earth start in the 21st century. As a teacher, she was finally able to work more with children and gathered all her strength to stand up for the presidential and federal chancellor elections. While the Presidential Barbie was very similar to Michelle Obama, Mattel designed a faithful reproduction of Angela Merkel for the German Chancellor election.

But even if Barbie couldn't be voted into our hearts as a “real” politician, on today's birthday of the doll, next to the smell of birthday cake and candles, there is probably a touch of inspiration in the air.

In the future we will still hear and see a lot from Barbie. Because for this year a real film about the life of the blonde is planned. What the film will show and what profession Barbie will have is not yet known. The possibilities are diverse, just like in our portal. Take a look and find your dream job!
